Holmes Log Railing Systems

For Three Generations the Holmes Family has handcrafted  Decorative Log Railings throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. John & Deb Holmes have made their home in Estes Park, Colorado, for nearly two decades.  John's knowledge and experience can be evidenced through the many log railing projects seen throughout our mountain community.

Over the years the process has stayed the same ...  Starting out with select lodgepole pine poles and an old fashioned drawknife. Although we do also offer machine peeled poles, the rustic look of the drawknife lends to the mountain flare most customers have grown to request. We can offer a variety of diameter sizes for the balusters and posts, as well as various sizes for tenons ... making each project unique to our customer's preference.  Tenon's sizes available:  1 ½”, 2”, 2 ½”, 3 5/8”, 4 5/8”.

We use a secure mortise and tenon assembly on all of our log railing sections.  All balusters meet standard spacing codes and have their tenons centered for a better fit.   Careful considerations is given to a tight fit that reduces rotting from moisture. Each baluster is secured with corrosion resistant screws; which makes installation of railing sections easier when done by a contractor or homeowner.   As an option we can also drill weep holes through the bottom footrails to expell any excess moisture that can cause rotting.
